Midway Island—a battle remembered as the turning point for American fortunes following six months of staggering reverses after Pearl Harbor. From the devastating defeat at the hands of the combined US Naval Forces, Japan never again experienced a major victory against America. Join us as we travel to Hawaii to commemorate the 79th Anniversary of this early battle of World War II in the Pacific.
Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum & USS Arizona Pacific Historic Parks Pearl Harbor, HAWAII are proud to partner with Military Historical Tours (MHT) to offer another in our series of historic anniversary tours to the battlefields of the world. This very special 79th Anniversary of World War II Tour starts in Honolulu with attendance at the 2021 Midway Educational Symposium. We will be joined by an official delegation representing the United States Navy, with a memorial service at the “Punch Bowl”.

Day One, Wednesday – 9 September
Arrive Honolulu via your individual flight arrangements. Upon arrival at our hotel, you will be met by MHT staff that will assist with check in. This evening, we gather for a Welcome Reception (no host) and Briefing. This evening, dinner is on your own. Hotel: Outrigger Reef, Waikiki Beach
Day Two, Thursday – 10 September
After breakfast, proceed to Ford Island, located in Naval Station Pearl Harbor to participate in the Midway Education Seminar hosted at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor. We will start the morning by exploring the museum, this will be the site of the symposium with a guest speaker and panel discussion by historians and experts on the Battle of Midway. We will have lunch in the period themed Lani Akea Cafe. After lunch, the symposium will with a no host “happy hour” at the museum before we depart Ford Island and return to the hotel. Meals: B/L/-
Day Three, Friday – 11 September
Following breakfast, we tour the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific “The Punchbowl” where the casualties of WWII have been laid to rest. Participants will be briefed on the Island hopping campaign and the United States’ Victory in the Pacific using the many large detailed maps available on site (as seen at right.) Before we depart we will have a ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the Pearl Harbor attack, the invasion of Guam and Wake Island all in December 1941, Battle of Midway and in all the other battles during the Pacific War. Next we head for Pearl Harbor for a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial. Special Events: Participants will be given a tour of the U.S.S. Arizona by the National Park Service. The Arizona Memorial Museum Association will conduct a lecture on the state of the Arizona, the damage that was incurred and on going preservation research. Participants will then take a tour of the U.S.S. Bowfin and tour the new Submarine Museum where they will learn the contributions of submarines during WWII. Evening at Leisure with the optional “Movie on Waikiki Beach.” Meals: B/Lunch-L
Day Four, Saturday – 12 September
We begin with an early morning departure for our charter flight, on United Airlines, to Midway Island for a 79th Anniversary Commemoration. This commemoration is a joint sponsorship between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), USS Arizona Pacific History Parks and Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum Peral Harbor. After the ceremony, we will have ample time to explore this historical island where the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps “Turned the Tide” in the Pacific during World War II. After a full day of ceremonies, exploring and swimming in the Midway Lagoon, we will return to Honolulu late in the evening. Breakfast and dinner en route; box lunch on the island. Meals: B/L/D

Day Five, Sunday – 13 December
After breakfast, participants will travel to Ford Island to tour the U.S.S. Missouri. We will get a behind the scenes tour of the Missouri that is not open to the general public. Participants will examine the role and accomplishments of the Mighty Mo during WWII. After lunch, we will spend the afternoon with a guided behind the scenes tour of the Pacific Aviation Museum that includes a visit to many of the historic buildings on Ford Island. Participants will be given a private walking tour and lecture on the role of Ford Island during the attack and you will be able to see the “Scars” of December 7th. On this walking tour, participants will be able to see the flight path of the Japanese attack as well as where key players were stationed, Hospital Point and will be able to see how narrow the entrance is to Pearl Harbor. Finally, we will then be given a private tour of the restoration hanger where the museum restores their WWII aircraft. The workmanship of “Rosie the Riveter” will be one of the topics of discussion as we discuss the war effort and its impact on weapons, home front and rationing of supplies. Day Six, Monday – 14 September
Day of leisure. After breakfast enjoy a fun filled day on Waikiki Beach or sightseeing in downtown Waikiki. We bid goodbye to new friends and proceed to the airport for your individual flights for home.
